Question

What is the agreed set of Handy-style seamlessness features for Vocalinux — hold-to-talk = record / release = paste (core loop), model picker + recording overlay, and Wayland parity (ydotool/systemd setup, per-DE shortcut instructions) — and how should each be implemented?

Context

  • Vocalinux already has push-to-talk (hold Right Alt default) and toggle mode.
  • Core loop: hold = record, release = paste into focused field (decided).
  • Overlay: Handy disables recording overlay by default on Linux (focus-steal risk) — Vocalinux needs a decision on overlay behavior X11 vs Wayland.
  • Wayland: Handy recommends ydotool/systemd on Ubuntu 26.04; Vocalinux needs parity guidance.

Resolution target

A decision on the seamless UX: trigger flow, overlay behavior, Wayland tooling and per-DE docs — ready for a builder. Grilling ticket — resolved via /grilling with the human.
